Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.

Curtains
For my kitchen, I've decided to go with the mustard or golden yellow with accents of red or vice versa. I've picked out two different fabrics for my window treatments that I really like unfortunately, the colors don't come out very well on the samples but here's my choices. I am just going to make a pleated valance for each of the windows and doors.
This is actually more of a gold instead of a bright yellow or tan that it's showing here. I found two sites with the samples and neither are a very good representation. The dots are red and are embroidered, not printed on the fabric so there is some texture.
This is my other choice. There's no yellow or gold in it. The background is tan. Pretty much as you see it here but I am leaning towards this one being too dark.
Help me!

Cabinets
Glen came today and installed the cabinets. I will be putting the shelves in them and the doors on in the next couple of days. Somehow, I missed the second coat of paint in one of the cabinets so after I paint that tomorrow, I will hng the doors. Tomorrow, the countertop people will be out to measure and make the template and then the counters will be installed next week Friday. Finally, we're getting to the end. Now, I need ideas for what color to decorate with, i.e. Curtains, dish towels, rug by the door, etc.

Kitchen Progress
Here's my new kitchen floor. You like? It took Brent and me a week band we still have the closet to do but I think it's absolutely beautiful. I am more pleased with it than I expected. Glen will be coming to re-install the cabinets in the next day or two and I will post again when they are in. Brent will still have to run the water line for the ice maker and water to the fridge but we are going through the back of the cabinets so that's the next step. In the meantime, the countertop people will come out to make the template for the counters. It's finally coming together and then we can move into the front room and hall. The city has a trash pick up on Wednesday so we are trying to get the carpet pulled up by then. That leaves us only tomorrow evening. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen.

Charlie Freak Out
I think I've mentioned before, When we are working in the kitchen, Charlie freaks out, especially when the compressor is running. The air gun terrifies him. Here is the latest result of his freak out session. This is the shower in the basement bathroom. Now we will have to replace the entire shower. Thank goodness it doesn't get used very often, if ever at all.

Friday the 13th
Well, I guess today really is Friday the 13th. I've been laid off my job. I've given my heart and soul to that company and it was all for nothing. The people that I hired or recommended be hired have all kept their jobs and stabbed me in the back. I guess that's what I get for being loyal. I've never learned how to be a manipulator and loyalty has never gotten me anywhere. What surprises me is that the owner of the company who just recently bought the business last fall (I will call him "L")raved about Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec, being "record" months but every Jan and Feb are slow in this industry. It's a given fact. But, even the stupid "Rah Rah" emails that the so called VP of Operations sends out daily mentioned on Friday how well March was turning out... So, as L is telling me that I'm the one to go, L mentions that we've lost three of our largest customers last year and he has no choice but to let two (of his best workers) go. The thing is, one of the customers went out of business, one was gone the year before because of something with the previous owner and the other one left about 3-4 months AFTER I stopped handling their account personally. This customer said they saw a decline in service. HMMMMM. In fact, I used to service the major clients personally because they requested me and when the VP of Operations decided to have everyone share the work and clients equally, ALL of our major client started sending less work. I'm just stating the facts here. Unfortunately, they are facts that the current VPO will never bring to L's attention. This and the fact that they kept someone that doesn't really do anything but watch the jobs as they come in and divide them up to the assignors, kept her job, maybe I don't want anything to do with this company anymore. Yes, I'm bitter but who wouldn't be?

Sun Bathing
Bad Habit
I go through a box of band-aids faster than anyone. I even cut them in half lengthwise to make the box last longer and because they fit better that way. I confess. I am a picker. I pick the skin around my nails until my fingers bleed. I usually use a nipper, the kind that salons use to gently clip hang nails but I'm not so gentle. I don't know why I do it. It's like I cannot control it. I have found that I do it most often while I am watching TV. I have not found a suitable alternate past time to occupy my hands to keep me from this ugly habit. Even 30 minutes of down time is enough to cause some major pain. I just don't know what to do.

What do you think?
So, tell me what you think about this ring. I've been wanting a new wedding ring for quite some time but Brent said it's not a wedding ring unless it's the original ring you were married with. There's nothing wrong with my "original" ring. It's just real small and getting a little tight. I only wear jewelry when I go out, including my wedding ring because I just forget to put it on but Brent's opinion is that once the ring is off his finger, that's the end of the marriage. He hasn't seen this yet.
and here is my original ring... look close, it's above my knuckle. Sidenote on the "original" wedding ring: This ring is actually two rings that have been attached together. It's also been smashed in a bank vault door and the smallest diamond on the side has been replaced. I've had it re-sized so many times that now you can't tell that it's two rings. The band is so thin and has been repaired multiple times because it seems to crack or wear out in the real thin spots. I've told Brent that the only thing original on this ring is the .24 carat diamond and the shape of the setting if you look at it from the top.
