Donating Stuff

Since All My Memories scrapbook store went out of business, we've all been asking "Where am I going to buy my scrapbook supplies? I don't like Robert's set up or selection". So, for about a year, I've noticed this store behind McDonalds on 94th and 7th. I never paid much attention to it before because it's in such a crappy location but since I had no where else to go, decided it was time to visit. Jenny and I went just over a week ago. I spent about $65. Typical amount when I haven't been for a while. I told the lady I was cleaning out my supplies and was going to take them to D.I. She told me that Primary Children's Hospital is always looking for these types of supplies so I decided that it where they will go. I have packed a box full of supplies. There's about a 3 inch stack of printed 12x12 paper, lots of templates for alphabets, shapes etc, decorative scissors, mini accordian scrapbooks ready for photos, thousands of die cut alphabet stickers, box full of embelishments like buttons, eyelets and other cute things. In addition to all this, I am thinking of also giving nearly all of my rubber stamps away. I went through them all and pulled out the ones I use regularly or those that I can't bear to part with because I think I "might" use them someday and what is left is 409 other miscelleneous stamps. Jenny said I should sell them on eBay but I don't want to bother. I would estimate the rubber stamps alone to be over $1000. Most of them have never even been used. Why buy them if I wasn't going to use them? Well, I used to have an addiction to them. When the kids were little, they would spend hours playing with them; coloring on each stamp with different colors then stamping them to see how pretty they were. Now my addiction has moved on to more advanced scrapbooking supplies however, I have been using them lately, not just storing them for Kim and Jenny to come shopping in my closet for.
So, if any of you want to do the same and donate any of your old scrapbook supplies, let me know.

Congrats Chelci & Philip

My Dad

Johannes Schippers (Sr)
10 Feb 1921
29 Mar 1998
My Dad. One of the greatest influences in my life. A man of courage and conviction. A man dedicated to his family, friends, work and church. He immigrated from the Netherlands to the United States with his wife and 4 small children in 1952 in order to provide them with greater oppotunities. After settling in Pocatello ID then moving to Salt Lake City, UT, his family of 7 children was now complete. 5 boys and 2 girls (tbd in future posts).

Dad, aka John, aka Jan (pronounced Yon), aka Opa is the man I am proud to have called my Father. He is my hero. He was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back or his last dime. He has helped me and my siblings numerous times, not only financially but with advice and anything else we may have needed. He was always willing to help and most of the time, we didn't even need to ask. He just knew.

I am and have always been so proud to have carried the name of Schippers. I envy my brothers because they will always be known by this name. (I am old fashioned and believe in taking my husbands name). It is my hope that those coming into the family by birth or marriage and taking on the Schippers name (however you wish to pronounce it), be proud of it and of it's heritage.

Happy Father's Day, Dad! I love you and miss you.

Happy Father's Day to all my brothers (and in laws) and to my Father in Law. I love you all.
Finally, but always first in my mind and heart, Happy Father's Day to my husband. Brent, you are my life. You've given me three wonderful children who have grown to be amazing adults. The unconditional love you have shown to me through these 30 years has been the most important part in all of our lives. I love you forever and always.

Oh, What do you do in the Summertime?

...When all the world is green? Do you fish in a stream or lazily dream on the banks as the clouds go by? Is that what you do? So do I.

Now that summer is approaching, I tend to get a little nostalgic. I like to think back to when I was a kid in the 1960's and 70's. WAYYYY back then, there was no such thing as year round school and summers lasted 3 months.

Some of my fondest memories were so simple. We rode our bikes a lot and read a lot. I used to love riding my bike to the library that was about a mile away. I'd check out a book then go about another mile to the drug store and buy penny candy. (Yes, you could buy licorice ropes and all sorts of cool candy for a penny, some even 2 for). Then I'd come home and lay under the big shade tree in our front yard and read my book.

We rarely watched TV. When we did, it was Giligan's Island, Flintstones and Brady Bunch. Back then, these shows were only on once a week around 7 pm. Most of the time, my mom would have records playing or the radio on. I remember "Where the Action Is" This was about as good as listening to the radio. For the benefit of those that don't remember this show or were too young, check this out; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_the_Action_Is . In the evenings, I would often go for a walk around the block with my mom and our dog Tippy.

My little red gingham dress. I could twirl in it and the panties had bells on the back.

I remember many times, my brother Hans and his band would set up their equipment in our backyard on the patio and play. All the teenagers from blocks around would come over and listen to them, dancing and having fun. We lived in an area where there were at least 100 kids on our street alone under the age of 18 so our backyard would be packed. Free Friday or Saturday night concerts were great and they were pretty good too!

I remember trips with my dad to Skaggs (drug store) to get triple scoop ice cream cones. I always got chocolate (though today I don't like chocolate ice cream) and Glen would always get strawberry.

I used to love watching home movies. Imagine, inserted here, the movie clip of Rick (about 8 years old) playing in the sprinklers, throwing his towel into the water. At that point, my dad would set the projector on reverse and the towel would magically jump out of the water. I sure wish we could have preserved those movies.

Drive in Movies. Those were fun though the only movie I specifically remember is Bambi.

Oh yeah, I remember my Tante Ma coming for a visit from Canada. She was a terrific seamstress and made me a couple of summer dresses. I remember one was white with light blue polka dots. I loved that dress. I was probably around 5 or 6.

Hide and Seek, Red Rover and Red Light Green Light were some all time favorite games, especially as it got a little dark. And with as many kids on our street, we had lots of fun.

Eddie taking me to the park. I'd ride side saddle on his 10-speed. One day, I asked him to take me and he said, "Only if you pick your nose and eat it" I cried and told my mom. I got to go to the park and NO, didn't have to pick my nose.

What are some of your memories?

Yippeeee

I did it! Myflashfetish is finally working and I got some of my all time favorite songs (at least 28 or so of them) loaded and the player isn't so out of place anymore. Now all I have to do to fix my blog is change the color on the sidebars...If only I could figure that one out. I tell ya, this blog thing can be addicting. Not only playing around on mine but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE reading everyone else's!

Yet another change

So I just really liked the blog skins that Emily, Mandy and Valerie had on their blogs so I decided to copy them. After trying several and Jenny saying, "No, that's too poopy colored" or "No, that's not YOU", we settled on this one. I especially liked the fact that I didn't lose any of my links or music. Now I just have to change my iPod to match. As soon as FlashFetish starts working again.

Yes, it's Terrie's Blog

I got tired of the purple butterflies so I thought I would change my background. Unfortunately, my lists dissappeared and so did my music. I had to re-create my ipod so I thought I would change out the music just a little. I threw in one that I am sure you will say, "That's not like Terrie"... Oh but it is (or rather, WAS!). I did like Def Leopard (but no other heavy metal band) back when they were extremely popular...maybe 20 years ago. Now that I've grown up, I've gone Country! It's been that way for a good 8 years or so and maybe I've always been a little bit country since I fell asleep with John Denver every night when I was a teenager but it's still fun to throw a little wild side into the mix now and then.
