Harvest time already?

I can't believe it's already time for reaping the benefits of my garden. Yesterday, I cut some swiss chard and cooked it for dinner. Yummmmyyy! I haven't had swiss chard in years and was so thrilled to find the starts at the garden store. I bought 8 plants and 7 survived. This was just enough fo rme and Brent to share. Brent also pulled the raddishes out and they too were so tasty. The onions were not planted this year but were planted last year. I've never planted onions before and last year when nothing came of the seeds that were planted, I figured I would not bother this year but low and behold, they grew this year. Brent couldn't wait to pull them up so even they were small, smaller than a gold ball, I cut them up and put them in the fried potatos. They too were delicious.
It's hard to believe that this:

Goes to this: (No, you didn't just get sudden blurry vision, that's the steam from the hot chard!)

And here are the raddishes and onions:

Don't you just love home grown?

New stuff

Two new outfits that I made this weekend.

Weekly Bowling 6/28/09

Terrie 161 / 147 / 138 / 146
Brent 173 / 149 / 143 / 135

So in the first game, I thought I was going to beat Brent and not only that, I thought I was on my way to at least 180. In the 6th frame, the score was 123 to 72 in my favor but then Brent had to go and open his mouth about how many strikes I had in a row and that blew it for me. He started getting the strikes and I started getting splits.

My bag

So, I took the idea from Penny. I know, I didn'[t use a dish towel... only because I couldn't find any cute ones. Hey Penny, where did you find your adorable dish towels? Anyway, I do love this fabric and have been eyeing it at The Cotton Shop everytime I go in there but couldn't justify it for doll clothes because of the large print so ta-daaa, I bought it for a bag. I needed something to put my crochet work in and I think this will be perfect. Yeah, I didn't put any pockets on or in there but on the next one I make, I will.

And P.S. Val, I bought a bunch of patterns for the mini doll clothes and you're welcome to use them and adjust them to make your own patterns. These that I bought have a copy right on them so I cannot sell the outfits once I make them. I am not good enough at crocheting to be able to make up my own patterns so if you do and want to sell them, you may also use my doll clothes website as a source. And yes, the patterns will sell. It's hard to find patterns for this small of a doll. I do have some smaller dolls called Liddle Kiddles dolls from the mid 1960's)that I need clothes for and if you could help me in that area, that would be awsome.

My new project

I rescued 50+ of these cute little "Kelly" dolls from eBay. I gave them all a bleach bath, washed, conditioned and restyled their hair and I'm now in the process of making them new clothes. Some of them came with clothes but the cheap little ones that are not very cute. I have about 10 crochet patterns and then I will be sewing some as well. All this between my regular full time job, sewing my 18 inch doll clothes and a secret project I am working on for someone special. At least I am so busy now that I don't have time to pick at my fingers. You should see my nails. They are looking quite nice again.

My new job

So, it's been a week since I started my new job. What can I say? It's a job and I am getting paid a decent wage and I still get to work from home. Honestly, if I had to work outside my home, I would NOT be working ever again. Some people just work better unsupervised with no office interruptions, gossip and politics. OK, the politics will come when the company grows and they accidentally hire someone who is a micro manager and thinks their way is always better, nevermind those that have more experience but in the meantime, I will be grateful for what I have for as long as it lasts. And if the owner desides to sell this company to start another one, I will probably be on his tail, following him to his next adventure.

Weekly Bowling Scores

So since I've forgotten to post the scores for the previous two weeks, I will post them all now.

5/24
Terrie 124 / 126 / 138 / 107
Brent 151 / 152 / 125 / 118

5/31
Terrie 95 / 134 / 128 I blame it on Jenny (the first game)
Jenny 133 / 106 / 97 She blames it on her broken toe
Brent 138 / 136 / 117

6/7
Terrie 140 / 114 / 108
Brent 153 / 186 / 166
I have to add here that as we walked out of the garage door, Brent said, "Someone's going to get a 180 game today". Yeah, he was the lucky one! I also have to say, he did pretty well compared to the previous weeks. He has a problem with his left knee and doesn't bend it (he tried to play HE-man lifting railroad ties last summer when one fell on his knee)but he's been getting pointers from his supervisor at work who regularly bowls in the 200's.

UP

Have you seen it yet? I absolutely loved this movie! I laughed and cried and yes, even learned a few lessons. Among one; always "turn the page".

Even if you don't have children to take, go see it anyway. This is definately a movie I will add to my collection and one you'll want to watch over and over again.

Last day of my early retirement

Today was te last day of what I was hoping an early retirement. Back in March when I lost my job, I was devastated and wondered how on earth we would make it financially. After two and a half months, I had stopped worrying about that because I was so busy doing all the things I never could do working full time. I even registered my doll clothes business name with a weebsite and I'm in the process of building my website so I can get more exposure. On a side note, there's just something in me that keeps telling me to NOT GIVE UP on this idea. But anyway, yesterday I got a call from a former employer. This is the company that Jenny is working for. He asked me if I was interested in coming to work for them now and would I meet with him for lunch today. We met and he asked if I could start right away. I am so torn. I had an anxiety attack on my way to lunch. My heart was racing so fast that I couldn't breathe. It only lasted for a minute or two but it makes me wonder if going back to work is the right thing to do. Brent is certainly thrilled because he doesn't see how we can make it without me working. He even went so far as to bribe me with a new car in a few months just to make me feel better. Deep down, I do know that I have to work but I was hoping to have the summer off to be able to do things around the house and concentrate on my little business. I start my new job tomorrow and luckily, Jenny will be training me. So much for my early retirement plans.
